SLUBP: South Lake Union Block Party Pics

Food writer and Seattle magazine columnist Lorna Yee discusses the finer points of bacon jam as a judge at the South Lake Union Block Party Audacious Burger Contest sponsored by Whole Foods. Seated next to her is fellow judge King5 News anchor/reporter Mimi Jung.

Joshua Henderson, of Skillet Street Food and bacon jam fame, ponders the meaning of audacious. Henderson was last year's winner of the perpetual Audacious Burger trophy displayed on the table before him. The 2009 winner is chef DJ McIntyre of Seastar Seattle.

The contest sponsor, Whole Foods, is across the street from the park where the SLUBP celebrated summer beginning at noon today. I rode the S.L.U.T. from downtown to the stop in front of the Westlake store where I discovered they serve Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream. It's a surprise to me since I haven't seen this local bonus in the WF Roosevelt store.

Inside the store, next to the bakery, WF serves several flavors with waffle cones (including the much-beloved salted caramel); good news for SLU fanatics of Molly's ice cream treats who now don't have to travel uphill to the Pike-Pine or out to Wallingford. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The SLUBP also featured a benefit wine tasting of Washington wines for Immanuel Community Services, exhibitors from local businesses and organizations, live music, and a free outdoor cinema that was scheduled to show Raising Arizona.
