Life in Hawaii through the perspective of the plate lunch. The Plate Lunch as served by Honolulu Mark is a mixed plate metaphor for the way people, their stories and their food, come together on one plate to make Hawaii paradise. Honolulu Mark has returned home to his Hawaii roots but eats, shoots and leaves extend to my second home, Seattle.

Winter dish from Ballard Market
Walking the Ballard Sunday Farmers' Market in winter, I'm pushed by the chilly winds to hurry and get out of the street, but I'm also pulled to each stall to see what kind of winter produce I can use for my next supper. At least I was warmed by savoring my favorite lemon sugar crepe hot off the iron from Anita's.
This week I picked kale to be my winter vegetable of choice. You see above a slice of the frittata I made with the kale, cheddar from the Estrella Family Creamery, garlic and local eggs. I also found at the market a handmade loaf of black Russian bread that I immediately starting pulling pieces from as I imagined I was walking some wintry street in a Dostoyevsky novel.
