Life in Hawaii through the perspective of the plate lunch. The Plate Lunch as served by Honolulu Mark is a mixed plate metaphor for the way people, their stories and their food, come together on one plate to make Hawaii paradise. Honolulu Mark has returned home to his Hawaii roots but eats, shoots and leaves extend to my second home, Seattle.

Slurpin' Good Pic of the Day
Today's Pic of the Day shows Boom Noodle executive chef Jonathan Hunt hard at work sampling his wares. Rebekah Denn, P-I restaurant critic, interviews Hunt and Boom Noodle head chef Satoru Sugitani on the art and science of the slurp.
The P-I's Mike Urban also produced an audio slideshow of the Capitol Hill restaurant where the real ramen is the house specialty. We hear Sugitani say ramen is "like soul food, like a street food" in Japan.
