Life in Hawaii through the perspective of the plate lunch. The Plate Lunch as served by Honolulu Mark is a mixed plate metaphor for the way people, their stories and their food, come together on one plate to make Hawaii paradise. Honolulu Mark has returned home to his Hawaii roots but eats, shoots and leaves extend to my second home, Seattle.

Warming away the winter chill
Localvore foodies warm up during the winter chill with a trip to the University Heights Farmers' Market. Chilly today and grey and wet but look, hot tamales?
During the winter market season, it's a smaller bunch of hearty farmers, fishermen and bakers offering their harvests and wares. What draws me out into the cold is the tasty opportunity to snack on hot tamales served with grilled winter vegetables, an authentic Italian winter minestrone, a Neapolitan pizza fired in a stone oven on wheels or homemade from scratch with local produce pies, as in Pies by Jenny (that's the 3-inch nosh of chocolate hazelnut in the photo which also comes in a six and 10 inch pie). All that chocolately goodness together with the crunch of Northwest hazelnuts is enough to wipe away the grey any day.
